The Carrick-on-Suir-based lawyer is the Law Society’s new president

Maura Derivan, a lawyer based in Carrick-on-Suir, has become the sixth woman to hold the position of President of the Law Society.

The Bar announced today (Friday, November 11) the appointment of Ms. Derivan as President for the year 2022/2023.

Ms Derivan is Managing Partner of Derivan Sexton & Company based in New Street, Carrick-on-Suir.

She becomes the 152nd President of the Bar. This is the second time in the company’s history that the current president and the new president have both been women.

Ms Derivan will serve a one-year term as president of the 23,000-strong Irish legal profession until November 2023.

“I am honored to serve as President of the Law Society and to lead the Irish legal profession over the next 12 months,” Ms Derivan said.

“As the sixth woman to serve as President of the Law Society, I recognize the importance of diversity, inclusion and representation. I am committed to serving the profession during my tenure as President,” a- she added.
