The Nationalist Party is yet to comment on proposed legal changes to abortion laws in cases where the life of the mother is at risk, saying it will do so after the legal amendments are published and discussed within the party.

On Wednesday, the government announced its intention to table a motion in parliament introducing a new clause which it says will clarify the legal position of the caring healthcare professional and the mother in the event of a medical complication, which would put the life of the mother in danger or his health. in serious danger, occurs due to pregnancy. This will be achieved through the introduction of an exemption which clarifies that termination of pregnancy to protect the health of the mother through medical intervention, as agreed by medical professionals, will not be considered a crime, the government said.

The bill has yet to be released, however, and is expected to be tabled on Monday.

Asked about the PN’s position on the government’s proposal, whether it supports such a legal amendment, and whether the PN will support the bill once tabled, a PN spokesperson said, “Since nothing has yet been published by the government, the Partit Nazzjonalista will be able to comment on the proposed amendments once they are published and discussed in the appropriate bodies within the party and the parliamentary group.”
